Katrina Kaif to chip-in for Cameron Diaz

The British Indian actor Katrina Kaif, who moved to several countries before finally dwelling in Mumbai, is all set sizzle the screen in the remake of a Hollywood blockbuster 'Knight and Day'. She has emerged as the first choice for the Bollywood producers to be featured in action movies as she has the perfect looks and figure to do them comfortably.

The beauty queen will be playing the role of hot American actor Cameron Diaz in remake. The original film was a romantic action comedy film starring Tom Cruise and Diaz in the lead roles. The film was directed by James Mangold that hit the floors in 2010. The film was a big hit on the foreign box-office and had done a good business there.

The role of Tom Cruise is to be played by sturdy Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan. The actor is shooting for his upcoming flick Krrish 3, which is a superhero science fiction film. The film is to be produced and directed by his father Rakesh Roshan.

Katrina, who will be performing all her action scenes herself in her upcoming film Dhoom 3, had earlier, performed some fighting scenes in her recent blockbuster 'Ek Tha Tiger' (ETT) which grossed more than Rs. 200 crore on the box-office. Now, she has decided to do all her thrilling scenes without using a duplicate because she enjoyed doing them in ETT.

According to the sources, "Katrina worked very hard to do her action sequences in ETT. Now, she is looking forward for more complex scenes as she enjoyed doing them in her last. The Hollywood remake will be having some tough action scenes, which is unusual for any Bollywood actor."

For now, she has been training acrobatics to do action scenes in her upcoming flick Dhoom 3 with Aamir Khan many more.

In the original Knight and Day film, Cameron Diaz performed some of the action scenes herself and rest were apparently shoot by a duplicate. Katrina will have to train herself to that level to perform those in the film. The actor will be training under the guidance of stunt coordinators, who are flying down to Mumbai in December. To manage the action sequences of the film, Robert Alonzo, David Rowden, Gregg Smrz and Ronn Surels will be here on the sets.

Katrina Kaif to get Rs. 2 crore for a wedding performance

Katrina Kaif is never out of work, it seems. Even when the actor isn’t shooting for one of her many film projects, she is still making money by utilising her free time to perform at weddings and awards functions. Now a source close to Katrina reveals that the actor was paid in crores for her recent appearance at a high-profile wedding at the Jodhpur Palace in Rajasthan. Incidentally, A-list

Bollywood leading ladies are known to usually charge only between Rs.30-45 lakh for a performance. “She performed to some of her hit songs. Of course, her item number ‘Chikni Chameli’ was one of them and she was paid Rs. 1.5 crore for it,” says the source. And she was not the only one to enthrall the guests there. “Priyanka Chopra also took to the stage, but we are not sure how much she charged to be there. But the figure is definitely not more than what Katrina was paid,” says the source.

But the story doesn’t end here. The actor will perform again, early next month, at an event in the city, and she will be paid an even larger amount of money.
“She has already bagged a deal for another wedding performance. This will be at the Taj Lands End, Bandra, on December 3. She is getting paid Rs. 2 crore for it,” says our source.
And who are the people who broker such deals for these stars? “There are a number of agencies functioning across the country that negotiate on behalf of their clients to have a star performance in a wedding and other social ceremonies,” says the source.

Katrina is free until mid-December, after which she will be shooting a song for Dhoom:3.

Katrina Kaif to do all action scenes herself in Dhoom:3, Knight And Day remake

In the blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger (ETT) earlier this year, Katrina Kaif’s character, playing undercover agent Zoya, had a fair amount of jumping and kicking to do.

The actor decided to perform some of the stunts herself, and had earlier told us, “The stunts in ETT were exciting... I had not done something like this before. I have to admit that action is challenging.”

But Katrina is far from done. For her upcoming films, she wants to do all the stunts herself. “While many Bollywood actors ask for stunt doubles, Katrina has insisted that she will do all the action scenes herself,” a source reveals.

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/6/katrina-ek-tha-tiger.jpgShe has at least three major stunts in her next Yash Raj production, Dhoom:3, including an underwater fight scene. Post that, she starts shooting for the Hindi remake of Knight And Day (KND; 2010), with Hrithik Roshan as her co-star.
“Katrina trained hard for the action sequences in ETT. Now, she is looking to push the envelope and attempt more complex stunts. Besides, KND will have action scenes of Hollywood standard, which is novel for a Bollywood actor,” the source says.

This also means a fair bit of pre-shoot training for Katrina. The actor is presently learning acrobatics for Dhoom:3.
In the original KND, Cameron Diaz did a few of her stunts herself, and apparently used doubles for some. Katrina will, however, train so that she is able to pull off all the stunts herself. “Stunt co-ordinators are flying down next month to train her. The action sequences will be managed by a fleet of stunt co-ordinators — Robert Alonzo, David Rowden, Gregg Smrz and Ronn Surels.”
The training will start in December, which is a few months before the film goes on the floors.

Katrina Kaif thrilled about comparison to Julia Roberts

As if being voted the sexiest woman, the most popular star among kids and winning many such polls in addition to ruling the BO wasn’t enough to make Katrina Kaif smile, the actress was compared to Hollywood star Julia Roberts at a recent awards event.
While Katrina’s always been considered one of the most bankable female stars of Bollywood by trade in the film industry and brand markets too, being compared to the international actor made Katrina very excited and emotional too as Julia happens to be one of Kat’s favourite stars.
“It feels wonderful to be compared to Julia Roberts...” says Katrina. But she still maintains that what matters to her most is acceptance from the audience. “It’s very flattering and overwhelming to have the constant love and support of your fans. And that’s what has always been important to me. I think it’s the audiences who have to actually come and see your films,” adds Katrina.
The actress who had a double dhamaka at the box office first with the Rs200 crore blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan and then another hit Jab Tak Hai Jaan with Shah Rukh Khan recently is currently busy working on Dhoom 3 with Aamir Khan, which completes her film list with the Khan troika.
Trade analyst Komal Nahta points out that the comparisons are absolutely justified. "Look at her track record. Just like Julia is considered bankable in Hollywood, Katrina is just as bankable in Bollywood and she's proven it too. She's been topping polls, is the face of some of the biggest brands, and hitting jackpots at the BO. People are beyond talking about her luck now and giving Katrina her due. She's proving her talent time and again by being hardworking, and it all shows now," says Komal.

Katrina Kaif: ‘Yash Chopra and SRK Are Quite Similar’

clip

Katrina Kaif, with Shah Rukh Khan, in “Jab Tak Hai Jaan.”
MUMBAI, India

  • She looks chic and casual at the same time, but is fatigued by the promotional activity – we guess that if you have to face TV channels all day till the evening (when we meet up) it’s going to quite fatiguing. Katrina Kaif, with all her ethereal beauty and sweet nature, is human after all.

Excerpts from a conversation:

Q: You have had the rare honor of being a Yash Chopra-directed heroine, and the female Shah Rukh Khan in the sense that you have five films with the banner already, including the forthcoming “Dhoom:3.”

A: Yes, but did you know that my first film with YRF would have been “Bachna Ae Haseeno,” but the role was later edited out?

As for working with Yash-ji, it was more than a dream come true. I was at the premiere of “Veer-Zaara” in 2004 and when I saw that sequence in which Shah Rukh Khan carries Preity Zinta over the bridge I really wanted to do a Yash Chopra film. But then I thought that it was very unlikely – I was the outsider, and my features were so different from the heroines he directed. And so when Yash-ji actually called me and asked last year, “Beta, would you like to be in my film?” it was like a stamp of approval. I must say that Yash-ji really liked me in “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” and really loved the film too. We had had long conversations about it whenever we met.

Q: So did you go “Wow!” when he actually called you up?

A: Well, I was always in and out of YRF Studios, for “Mere Brother…,” “Ek Tha Tiger” and there were things in the air, so it was not completely unexpected.

Q: What is that special thing about a Yash Chopra heroine?

A: Well, honestly, I have not seen much of his older films, but I think that the women in his films are not just beautiful outside but were strong multidimensional characters, whether they were pious (like my character in “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”) or flawed. They were deep and you could connect with them. And I don’t think that this came about without any reason: it was because Yash-ji deeply respected women, and you could see that in his relationship with his wife Pamela Aunty, too.

Even with me, he would prefer personal interactions. He had a long talk with me, analyzed me psychologically and told me the explanations of certain traits that I had that influenced my work! He would predict whether I was happy or in a sad mood by our interactions on the sets and even said that I was scared of being praised for my work so I would hold back on my performance sometimes! In short, he really cared whether you were happy or sad and not because of work.

Q: You were to shoot one song in Switzerland when he suddenly passed away. When was your last meeting?

A: Before I went to Chicago for “Dhoom:3” we had a sitting for the sarees I was to wear in that song. Like always, he took a personal interest in choosing which of the 15 sarees would look best and told me, “Okay then, see you in Switzerland.” He was very particular about dates every time, and mentioned even the date.

Q: What is the prime emotion now when he is no more?

A: After the tears have dried up, genuine sadness remains. It was a jolt, but now let us just remember that he went out with guns blazing, probably just the way he would have liked. He was there and then he was gone – to a better place. He was too active a man to have gone after being down for a long while in bed.

Q: What is that one vital difference between him as director and all your younger filmmakers?

A: His maturity and sensitivity and his whole approach. He celebrated the undying quality of love because he had seen it all – real-life love, passion and conviction.

Q: And how was it working with Shah Rukh Khan?

A: You know, Yash-ji and Shah Rukh Khan have many things in common. He too is always caring and have a lot of respect for women. If I enter a room and Shah Rukh cannot stand up, he always acknowledges me. He is so much of a gentleman, he rehearses with you in the interests of the film rather than just being concerned with his own role and shot. I have realized something very unique about him: that in his films women are never ornamental. They have good, strong roles in them and I think this has a lot to do with Shah Rukh. And he is exceptional in the intense romantic characters he does.

I really enjoyed working with him once I got to know him. Then there was this shot in which I suggested that he do it a little differently. And he did it and joked, “Okay, this girl who could not even meet my eye in the beginning has now started correcting me!”

Q: Don’t you sometime wish that Salman and he would be friends again?

A: It is not for me to say anything. They are happy in their own spaces and are adults, not kids who have had a fight. All I can say is that both are wonderful human beings.

Q: What about your equation with Anushka Sharma?

A: I think that it is not true that two actresses cannot be friends – they can if they are honest and clean. But we meet in a place of work and situations can change, so it is wiser to perhaps keep a small reservation and approach with caution.

But you know, I really got along with her. It took no effort and there were no awkwardness or forced silences. In fact we are having a lot of fun on the promotions together – often at Shah Rukh’s expense!

Why is Katrina acting dumb with Salman Khan & Shah Rukh?

Bollywood hottie Katrina Kaif is a simple, hard working girl who just happens to be beautiful and accidentally finds men swooning all around her.
But of course she is not dumb; she may pretend to be bubble headed to top notch heroes of the industry like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.
For someone who grew up traveling round the world from Hong Kong, Japan, France, Switzerland, Poland, Germany to London; witnessing a single struggling mother and some historic events of the world, Katrina Kaif can definitely be anything but dumb.
With non-filmy background, Katrina has been accepted by the industry, even if reluctantly. She now works with the biggest directors, the biggest actors and her achievements is often credited to her mentor or co-stars not herself.
When people hear Katrina talk, a lot of times her comments are along a certain line and her response is dull and you might think, 'oh! she is dumb'. The actress might have sensed the image she is building and retorts in an interview 'I'm not dumb'.
We believe her. But what baffles us as to why she acts dumb and doesn't mind being the butt of all jokes?
Katrina's ex-flame Salman Khan is often seen making fun of her - be it for her accent or some rather random subjects - on public platform much to the crowd's delight.
All she does is smiles her way out from the sticky situation.
Her co-star of 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' Shah Rukh Khan pokes fun at her. All she does is chuckles. However, the lady doesn't mind either of the actors' antics. She says it's because of the camaraderie she shares with them.
As if she got any choice?
The 28-year-old actress further pointed out that she's not allergic to humour. Yes she can bear all the humour at her expense! At media events and public forums she is the harmless stooge for entertainment.
Katrina says she is not an industry stranger to take offense at the jokes made at her. Even if she takes offense who it will be against - Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan?
It was Salman Khan who helped Katrina Kaif come out of her 'Boom' skin and revive her image in the industry. Her mentor of sort.
And it was Katrina's dream to work with Shah Rukh Khan. So whom should she retort back?
Both these co-stars are reigning actors in Bollywood with immense clout over the industry. She obviously cannot show her displeasure at them.
She now works with the top heroes who has a monopoly in the industry so can she really gets offensive with them?
Bollywood has been known for being a male dominating pasture. If Katrina starts getting offensive there are many options for these heroes for a leading lady.
So basically playing turkey Katrina is actually being smart!

Katrina Kaif gets rave reviews for JAB TAK HAI JAAN

Holding her own in Yash Chopra's JAB TAK HAI JAAN, Katrina Kaif walked away with stellar reviews for the film that went on to garner the highest ever business for any film released on Laxmi puja day, with a domestic collection of approximately 50 crores within its first 3 days.
If that wasn't all, the film also made a killing at the overseas box office, grossing over 3.5 million USD in just 3 days.
Says Katrina Kaif, " I'm really happy that the film is doing well and that the audiences have embraced it the way they have."
Proving yet again she's the darling of the masses, Katrina Kaif who was a lead in yet another landmark film, received praise from audiences and critics alike, playing the quintessential Yash Chopra heroine.
Says acclaimed critic and trade analyst, "Katrina is the classic Yash Chopra heroine. An enigmatic beauty, who doubles up as a seductress [watch her in the 'Saans' track or the music piece]. She looks ethereal and enacts her part with elegance and restraint. As a matter of fact, she glides into her part with effortlessness and acts out some of the difficult moments with flourish. Katrina is an integral part of this story and it must be said that she walks away with some of the best scenes and lines in the movie. Her performance is full of grit."
Adds a trade analyst, "Katrina Kaif deserves kudos for a job wonderfully done. Whether it is her scenes in conversation with God or her inhibitedness before she finally opens up or whether when she surrenders before God or when she re-enters Samar's life, Katrina is so totally immersed into her character that it would seem, she was born to play Meera in this film."
With a success ratio that very few actresses in the industry enjoy with blockbusters like PATNER, WEL COME, SINGH IS KINNG , NEW YORK, RAJNEETI, AJAB PREM Ki GHAZAB KAHANI, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, EK THA TIGER and the recent JAB TAK HAI JAAN , Katrina Kaif will next be seen in Yash Raj's DHOOM 3 and Fox Star Studios' Bollywood remake of the 2010 James Mangold action-comedy -KNIGHT AND DAY.

'Jab Tak Hai Jaan': Shah Rukh Khan's painfully awkward romance with Katrina Kaif

New Delhi: 'I'm going to kiss you now, and I do not think you would slap me," superstar Shah Rukh Khan says to Katrina Kaif at London's Charing Cross station waiting to catch a train home. Well, ouch. Would you believe that in a magical career spanning over two decades, the man has never kissed a lead actress in any of his films?
He chose to do it in a film that could well be the best role he has ever played but unfortunately with an actress who is 20 years younger than him and the awkwardness showed.
In the first half of the film, played out mostly in flashback, Khan makes his living doing odd jobs in London. He shares a flat with a young Pakistani man and plays the guitar by the roadside for lunch money.
Then he meets Katrina, who plays rich NRI girl Meera in the film, while shovelling snow outside a church and he is instantly smitten. The eternal love story that spans a decade after that is a study in inspired moments quilted with the downright absurd. Shah Rukh has given his career's best performance. His is the shoulder the film rests on, not Katrina's or Anushka's. And he carries the burden well. But he could have had a little help from Katrina, who does nothing to bridge the gap between the awkward and the sublime.
Yash Chopra, the director of Jab Tak Hai Jaan, was bordering on 80 when he started the film. He is the master of old world romances that were full of intrigue, moments of conflict and heady charm. But perhaps he failed gauge the depth of love in the 21st century and in the process trivialized and generalized it to a cringe-worthy 'make-out-break-up' model.
Shah Rukh, who's restrained and mature as he goes through two complex roles, goes to pieces when he's paired with Katrina, one of the loveliest faces in cinema at the moment. He is 47 years old and it shows in the first half as he tries to woo her.
It's commendable that Chopra, despite his age, tries to remodel his traditional heroines from the underplayed sensuous to the modern day 'cool'. Katrina smokes a cigarette outside her own engagement party and the other is a tomboyish, over-excited little thing.
But a series of awkward kisses captured mostly in long shots and covered up with locks of hair falling over the face of the two actors are the only moments of intimacy between Shah Rukh and Katrina.
Chopra belongs to a different era, we understand that. Perceptions about reality have shifted within filmmaking over the years. But 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' has a soul of the 1960s trapped in a body from 2012. Shah Rukh, who keeps both actresses grounded in the film with a remarkable performance, unfortunately comes across as staid and out-of-place in his romance with Katrina.
The rubbing of toes signifying a heavy make-out session leading to sex, does not work in the day and age of gritty, realistic films. You can argue that Yash Chopra's romances are from a different era and that's why they are special.
It could have been more believable had Shah Rukh been paired with someone close to his age, such as Kajol.
But in the end, what you see on screen is about as real as it's going to get. And the tentative kisses and willing acceptance of a fate thrust upon him by Katrina in a juvenile promise to god, just does not make it.

Katrina Kaif : 'Shah Rukh Khan was slightly intimidating'

Shah Rukh Khan & Katrina Kaif in a still from their new untitled movie
© Yash Raj Films
Katrina Kaif has described working with Shah Rukh Khan as slightly intimidating.

The Ek Tha Tiger actress stars opposite Khan for the first time in the eagerly awaited Yash Raj Films release Jab Tak Hain Jaan.

Describing the experience of working with him, she told Mid-Day: "At first, it was slightly intimidating because I haven't interacted with him for too much before this film happened.

"We haven't socialised at parties either. It was almost like working with a stranger but as time passed by, the comfort level eventually built up."

Kaif went on to describe her experience of being directed by the late Yash Chopra, saying: "He was one of the most genuine people from the Hindi film industry. Just by looking at your face, he'll figure out what's going on in your mind - whether you're sad or happy.

"I also remember him for his tendency to crack jokes and make you laugh. Even if he asked a simple question like, 'How you are?', he meant it. It wasn't for formality's sake."

The actress, who features with Khan in the romantic song 'Saans', said that she has no problem with enacting intimate scenes in films.

"I don't see a particular scene in seclusion," she added. "To me, it's part of the entire movie.

"Being an actress, I'm supposed to look at it that way and I expect others to do the same. If an intimate scene is an integral piece of the story, then it needs to be done."

A grand premiere for the film is being staged in Mumbai today (November 12) as a celebration of the life and work of Yash Chopra.

Stars took to Twitter ahead of the event with messages for the film's cast and in honour of Yash Chopra.

Ishaqzaade actress Parineeti Chopra wrote: "Jab Tak Hai Jaan tonight. Everyone comes together for yashji . Very proud, honoured and happy to be a part of his life :) "

Teri Meri Kahani director Kunal Kohli said: "Headed to Yashraj to watch yashji's film,so many memories of such warm times spent with him."

Producer/director Karan Johar tweeted: "Yash Chopra, a father to me & to the entire film fraternity, today is not his swan song but a celebration of his Love to the nation."

The premiere will reportedly feature all of Yash Chopra's heroines through the ages.

Jab Tak Hain Jaan releases worldwide on November 13.
